- Make sure you are logged in to the CIMIC 3
host as described in the

- Type
pine and press Enter.

- Pine keeps your e-mail in one of 3 folders
(by default). Press

list of the folders:

- INBOX - New Messages you have received.
- sent-mail - Messages you have sent to others.
- saved-messages - Messages you have saved.
- To read a new mail message,
look in the INBOX.
- Use the arrow keys to highlight the INBOX and
press Enter to view any new messages there.
- A list of messages similar to the following
will appear:

- From this point (now that a message is being read),
you may choose to:
- Delete the message - if you don't need
it any more.
- Reply to the message - if you
have something to answer
- Forward the message - Pass it along to
someone else.
- You may also:
- Scroll through the e-mail message using the
arrow keys, the space bar or the
- key (the minus sign)
- Move to the Previous or Next
e-mail message.
- Go back to the Main Menu

| Replying to an E-Mail Message |
- Make sure you're viewing an e-mail message
as above.
- Press the letter
R.
- It is possible to include the original
message in your reply. This helps
the person who sent the original message
to remember what he or she wrote.
Include original message in Reply?
Y Yes
^C Cancel N [No]
Press
Y to include the original
message or N to not
include the original message.
- An e-mail message can be sent to a
group of people at one time. When replying,
one can either reply only to the original
sender, or to everyone (all recipients).
Reply to all recipients?
Y Yes

Y to send the reply
to all of the recipients of the original
message or press N to
send the reply only to the originator
of the message.
- At this point, go to
Step 8 below.

e-mail message.

- Attachments fields blank for now - Just
press Enter when you get to that field.
- At this point,
you can write your
message in the editing window.
- Use the arrow keys to move around.
Backspace can be used to erase
characters.
- Be sure to "sign" your name.
- When you're all done, it should look
something like this:

- To Send the message, press
^X.
Hold down the ctrl key (Control)
and press the letter X.
- You will be prompted one last time
to confirm sending the message.

Y to send it.
- Afterwards, the Main Menu will appear again.

| Running the PC-TCP Software FTP program |
- In the Windows Program Manager, open
up the PC-TCP Group by double
clicking on it.
- Start up the FTP program by double
clicking on the FTP icon.

| Open a connection to a remote host |
- When the FTP program is first run, a dialog
box will appear to open up a New connection.
- For this example, fill in the information as
follows:
- Host name:
cimic3.rutgers.edu
- Username:
Your user name for the CIMIC 3 host.
- Password:
Your password for the CIMIC 3 host.
- After filling in these three fields, click on
the "Connect" button.

| Change directories |
The main screen of the program is divided into two
halves. On the left is a listing of files for the
PC you are using and on the right is a listing of
files for the remote host.
- Use the scroll bars to scroll down the file
lists.
- For the PC side, scroll all the way to the
bottom to see the different drive letters.
e.g., the "A:" or "B:" drives are the floppy
drives.

| Uploading and Downloading files |
- To upload a file from your floppy disk to the
CIMIC 3 host, use the scroll bars on the PC
side to change the directory to your floppy
disk.
- Highlight a file to upload by clicking on the
file name one time.
- Choose the appropriate file type - either
ASCII or
Binary.
- Click on the "Copy" button
to transfer the files.
- To download a file from CIMIC 3 to your floppy
disk, highlight the files in the right side
window. Note the arrows around the "Copy"
button will change direction. Click on the
copy button to transfer the files.
