The Objective of The Program
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is committed to supporting
the future of the state. The Newark campus of Rutgers currently offers
several special outreach programs to local youth. This summer computer
workshop is a joint effort between the Center for Information Management,
Integration, and Connectivity
(CIMIC) and the
MUSIC (Making Healthy Multi User Sessions In Community) program.
CIMIC staff, in collaboration with the captains of MUSIC, is offering
this outreach program for the purpose of providing minority girls and
boys ages 12-18 with enriched hands-on instruction in the area of
computer and information technology.
The goals are to:
- Stimulate curiosity and excitement in elementary/high school
children through the introduction of the state-of-the-art computer
tools and technology.
- Place children in an actual university environment,
interacting with computer professionals as role models.
- Allow computer professionals to transmit their own excitement with
science and technology and spark the children's imagination and curiosity.
- Demonstrate the feasibility of a career in information technology
- Disseminate the success of the program to universities and
elementary/high schools nationwide.

Classwork & Project
During the class, Students will get hands-on experience
via lab practice, and the term project (Building WWW pages).
Groups of 3 or 4
students will construct a set of ``Home Pages'' for
their respective schools, or a local business or
organization.
Towards the end of the camp, each group
will present their WWW pages to the class.
