Data Analytics & Information Assurance

This year, our program will focus on the data analytics and information assurance problem. Indeed, the amount of data in our world has been exploding, and analyzing large data sets will become a key basis of competition, underpinning new waves of productivity growth, innovation, and consumer surplus. In this program, the students will learn some basic concepts of data analytics and information assurance. Also, the students will learn how to use commercial data mining software to gain hands-on experiences in applying the concepts to real-world applications, such as financial fraud detection, customer segmentation, and customer churn analysis. This work is based on the research and development results sponsored by National Science Foundation (NSF).

  • Learn the basics of data collection, storage and management.
  • Learn different ways that the data can be used in business operations.
  • Use analytical methods and tools to analyze data for decision making.
  • Employ data analytics tools to explore data analysis and visualization.
  • Develop skills to interpret the analyzed data reports
  • Develop effective communication skills to deliver business presentation.

During their time at the camp, students will learn and use computer applications and tools to conduct their study. Each student will have access to his/her own computer workstation. Instructors will help students to learn the necessary concepts and computer tools. Students will also have hands-on training in basic application software such as word processing, spreadsheets and a presentation application such as power point. They will learn how to interact with their colleagues through a problem-centered approach to learning.
On the last day of camp, students will have an opportunity to share their camp activities and experience with teachers, parents, relatives and friends through a multimedia presentation, which will be open to the public. The camp will run at the Rutgers University Newark campus from July 8th to July 19th from 8:30am to 12:30pm.
